Cheryl Lynn Kosewicz, 35, passed away in Sparks on July 27,
2007. Cheryl was born on November 11, 1971 to Ted M. and
Elizabeth Ann Kosewicz in Brewster, Washington.
In 1990 Cheryl, a Lady Raider, graduated as Valedictorian from
Lake Roosevelt High School, Coulee Dam, Washington. In the
summer of 1990 she played on an International Basketball team
In Europe.
She was a Lady Rebel Basketball player at
UNLV and graduated in 1994. In 2000 Cheryl received her Juris
Doctor from Lewis and Clark School of Law. She was a Deputy
District Attorney for the Clark County District Attorney's
Office for 6 years before moving to Reno to work as a Deputy
District Attorney for the Washoe County District Attorney's
Office. Cheryl also had a love for Triathlons, soccer, boxing,
camping, biking and the rodeo. She won the gold medal as an
International Olympic Police Boxer.
In 2005 Cheryl was assigned to the
Juvenile Division of the Clark County District Attorney's Office
as the sole prosecutor of juvenile cases involving special
victims, Including sexual assault cases. She cared about her
victims, the children, and the cases with intense empathy and
passion. She was a tireless advocate for all her cases. She also
gave of herself to her office and teammates, and lived life with
gratitude and spoiled her friends with thoughtful gifts and
cards.
Cheryl volunteered her time to coach the
Green Valley High School Mock Trial Team. Each year, her teams
competed in the statewide High School Mock Trial Competition
sponsored by the Nevada State Bar Association. Under her
guidance, her teams won the state championship two years and
proceeded to the National High School Mock Trial Competition;
one in Minnesota, one in Florida. Cheryl believed it was
important to nurture the dreams and career aspirations of our
best students and to give back to the community. Kosewicz said,
"The students at Green Valley are so advanced, many are
considering law school." Cheryl later went on to be a Judge in
the local competition.
Teresa M. Lowry wrote, "Cheryl was a
magnetic life force and everyone wanted to have some of what she
had. She was always on the go. Every weekend if she wasn't
working she was involved in a sporting event, training for a
sporting event or spending time with her many, many friends.
Cheryl lived more in 35 years and touched more lives in that
time than most of us will if we live to be a 100."
A non-profit program of "Koz's Kloset
